Residential schools, which are nothing but boarding schools, are a way for children to break free from the conventional ways of studying and chase a more independent and a more practical way of life. A parents’ perspective to the boarding school quandary has been discussed many a time. Even that of a child who doesn’t wish to leave the comfort of his place to study in any top residential schools in India has been thoroughly visited. Have any of us wondered about a child who, in all his senses and sensibilities, wanted to experience boarding life but has been persistently denied the privilege?
Why wouldn’t they, for that matter? Contrary to conventions, there is nothing particularly outrageous or upbeat about a residential school. These schools no longer ‘beat the humanity’ out of you. In fact, they never did. And it’s a good thing that people are outgrowing the fear affixed to the idea of a boarding school. Because in reality, there hasn’t ever been anything that could have perpetuated the same.
